1.6.8. General rules of towage

GENERAL INFORMATION

Always, when it is possible, tow the car so that forward wheels did not concern the earth.

The car can be lifted behind and to move it in situation at which it will be possible to use a forward hitch.

The Audi-80/Audi-80 Quattro, Audi-90/Audi-90 Quattro and Audi-Kupe models cannot be towed by means of the usual equipment with obvyazochny chains or the low-frame trailer. At towage with use of such equipment the bumper and a car body will be damaged.

If it is necessary to tow the car with an automatic transmission, it is necessary to lift forward wheels in order that the transmission was not damaged because of a lack of greasing.

If it is necessary to tow the car with a mechanical transmission at the lobbies which were on the earth or back wheels (model with a drive on all wheels), it is necessary to check, that transmission oil did not proceed, and was not merged.

Speed and the maximum distance at towage

For cars with a drive on forward wheels

At towage do not exceed speed in 80 km/h and do not tow the car on distance more than 80 km.

For cars with a full drive

At towage do not exceed speed in 50 km/h and do not tow the car on distance more than 50 km.

Prevention

Never leave passengers in the towed car.

Forward hitch

Establish the equipment for lifting of wheels on wheels.

Establish safety belts

Establish safety chains on the bottom levers of a suspension bracket.

The gap at towage should be 155–310 mm between tires and the road.

Back hitch

Establish the equipment for lifting of wheels on wheels.

Establish safety belts.

Establish safety chains on the back bridge or a stretcher (on all-wheel drive models).

The gap at towage should be 155–310 mm between tires and the road.

The maximum speed and distance at towage

For cars with a mechanical transmission: 80 km/h – 80 km

For cars with an automatic transmission: 50 km/h – 50 km

Audi-80 Quattro/Audi-90 Quattro, Audi-Kupe

Procedure of a hitch is similar to hitch procedure for models with a drive on forward wheels.

If the car is necessary for towing, having lifted forward wheels, blocking of differential should be disconnected in order that back wheels could rotate freely on turns.

Do not tow the car with a speed more, than 50 km/h on distance bigger, than 50 km. If it is necessary for you to transport the car on distance bigger, than 50 km, it is necessary to do it, having established the car on the low-frame cart.

Anchor points

Anchor points of the car are located in front and under a rear bumper on the right side.

At towage, it is necessary to observe towage rules.
